Located right on the Amazon River, Iquitos is a destination catered to adventurous travelers with a love for nature.
For some travellers the Amazon Rainforest rivals Machu Picchu! Iquitos is a recommended addition to your Peru itinerary because it can cater to those looking for adventure, health foods, or just looking to disconnect! While also found in other parts of Peru, Iquitos has the advantage for its special location of being on the iconic Amazon River.
In short, there is no bad time to see the Amazon River in Peru! All in all, the best time to visit Peru depends on which other regions you plan to visit, so it may be better to plan your Peru trip around the best time to visit Machu Picchu in the highlands.
In Iquitos, you’ll find species which don’t exist elsewhere and unique experiences you can’t get anywhere else in the world. There’s a gourmet restaurant that floats down the Amazon River and even a Treehouse hotel where you can live out your childhood fantasy!
